During the time of Britain’s Queen Victoria, the country steadily emerged as the most powerful nation if the field of trading in the world. The effects of that emergence were outstanding, and everlasting. The effects of that gain are still being felt in the present day, not only in the United Kingdom, but around the entire world. Towards the end of the eighteen century the process of industrialization began, and paved the way for the process to continue strong in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.I was looking for more information and found it here. The foundation of this industrialization, started with steam technology. As the industrial technologies were rapidly advancing, the United Kingdom, was able to become a very powerful force the international trade market. One of the earliest British pioneers that has been credited with British emergence as a powerful international trade country was, Isambard Kingdom Brunel. He was a magnetic ship builder, he designed one of earliest steam engines, that paved the path for modern day British trade. The first ship he designed was the ‘Great Western’. This ship set sail from Bristol England to New York, in a record time, that was never accomplished before. The trip took fourteen days and twelve days and established the steamship era.

It wasn’t until 1707 that Scotland and England officially agreed to end their rivalry and move forward as countries. It was this Act of Union that created the Kingdom of Great Britain, once both parliaments had agreed on putting an end to their rivalry. This created free trade from Scotland to England, as well as the colonies. Scotland played a big part in the development of Britain’s empire. They also took a part in the inventions that arose from the Industrial Revolution, as well as the wealth that came into Britain as a result.

It wasn’t until the end of the 18th century that Scotland had its most creative period. There were many famous people who arose from this time who won world fame in various aspects and subjects. It wasn’t until the next generation that Sir Walter Scott made Scotland known throughout the world. The Scots were actively involved in establishing the colonies throughout America, Canada and Australia. It eventually came to pass that the Scots were merged with the United Kingdom, but they continued to be an integral part of world affairs in more than many people would assume. There was a new parliament that was created down the road that is still making its mark on the people of the town.

What could be more quintessentially English than the idea of Sunday cricket on the local village green followed by tea and cakes? It is an ideal that many live, and the national team is merely an extension of this.

Cricket is one of England’s many national sports. Although there are rivalries, particularly with Australia, it is nonetheless considered a gentleman’s sport. The national game is a long and gentle one, often taking a few days to complete. This creates a patience in English cricket fans and a healthy tolerance to sitting outside for days. The game is too long to wear yourself out by cheering constantly, so you have to pace yourself.

More importantly, it doesn’t matter if they win or lose; it’s the taking part that counts. At least, that’s the excuse English fans use until their team finally beats someone. And here we have the mindset of the Barmy Army. It’s a good-natured and supportive group of fans who love cricket.

The Barmy Army is a very British institution: loyal, self-deprecating and well-traveled. Ready to fly the Union Jack at any cricket tour or event, they can be counted to provide a polite ripple of applause whenever someone scores a six or a four.

When it comes down to it, English soccer fans have been much better behaved during the last decade then they have probably ever been throughout history. Of course, old stereotypes take a while to die out, which is why English soccer fans are typically looked at among the worst in the world. With that said, while they might be loud and somewhat arrogant (show me sports fans who aren’t), when it comes to the violence that everyone likes to point to in soccer, the English soccer fan has not been as “guilty” as many think that they are.Is this new to you? Catch up here

When was the last true “soccer riot” you’ve heard of that have included English soccer fans? While you used to read about it each and every Monday morning in papers around the world, the good ‘ol English soccer riot has actually become a thing of the past, at least for the most part. And while they still like to chant, show up in big numbers and be somewhat annoying, you aren’t seeing as many fights as you used to. Heck, you could argue that Spain and Italy have fans that are much more likely to riot than the fans in England are, which is saying a lot.

A shockwave went through the world of European soccer earlier this month when both Manchester City and Manchester United failed to advance out of the Group Stage of the UEFA Champions League tournament. While it’s understandable that Man City would fail to get out of the group, considering that they are playing in their first UEFA tournament in quite a while, Man U not advancing was a monumental shock. In a way, it brought up a question that is being asked across the globe: are England’s Premier Football teams up to European standards? Are we finally seeing the decline of one of the most popular leagues in the world?

Can you say overreaction? While sports is all about overreaction, saying that Premier League soccer has become subpar in terms of European dominance because Man U didn’t advance to the second round is akin to saying that the United States is no longer an economic super power because they got their credit rating lowered. The thing is, when you step back and bit from the shock of seeing Man U taken out so early, you realize that it’s not as shocking as it seems. While Man U is still near the top of the table in the Premier League, this is a team with a variety of new pieces, pieces that take time to meld together. While it’s shocking to see last season’s finalists not make it past the Group Stages, it’s not shocking to see this team fail to do so.

Of course, saying that the Premier League has lost a step is ignoring the fact that there are two league teams that did make it to the knockout stages: Arsenal and Chelsea. Both teams handily won their Groups and both teams play Italian teams with a good chance to make into the quarterfinals. These are not lean years for the Premier League, no matter how you slice it.
